In what was a micro example of their season so far City failed to build on their excellent four goal victory over Worcester City two days earlier sliding to a 3-1 defeat against Tiverton Town. Their main tormentor was Steve Owens, firing home a hat-trick, but it was a combination of poor defending and individual errors that handed the Devon front-man his openings. In truth City did not play too badly, for long spells of the game they held the upper hand, however against a side clearly out for revenge after their recent embarrassing defeat at Twerton Park they never looked like completing a surprise double. And in a further blow to City's hopes of avoiding relegation they lost Paul Milsom for the remainder of the season after he was carried from the action in the 57th minute with a knee injury.

Ironically this came after Alan Pridham had the rare luxury of naming an unchaged side from the one that beat Worcester, although it was the home side who made the early running, taking the lead after just ten minutes. Mark Hervin had already been called upon to turn away a Nancekivell shot on four minutes but he could do nothing to prevent an unmarked Ovens slotting home after he had been picked out by Peters neat header. This setback seemed to spark City into life and twice they won free-kicks within the shooting range of Jason Drysdale. The first effort cleared the Tiverton bar by several yards and the second was on target but straight at keeper Edwards. Their best chance of the first half came in the 21st minute when a mistake by Steele gave Matt Hale a clear run on Edwards goal. However, he could only shoot straight at the keeper legs and the opportunity went begging. Further half chances fell to Milsom and Adrian Foster before the interval but City still went into the break a goal down.

The second half continued in similar fashion with City on top. Foster's run and cross almost picked out Cleverley in the 47th minute only for Marker's tackle to deny the teenage striker. The pressue continued but Edwards came to his side rescue with a brace of excellent stops in the 50th minute. A Drysdale cross fell kindly to Redwood only for his rising shot to be turned over the bar by the keeper. From the resultant corner Tiverton's failure to clear their lines allowed Milsom a shooting chance but again the keeper was equal to the threat. These saves became even more crucial as two minutes later Tiverton doubled their lead. A rare attack should have been cleared by Toby Redwood but his miskick fell to Everett and he squared the ball to Ovens to give him an easy tap-in. If City thought it couldn't get any worse they were mistaken when Milsom's attempt at a tackle on the halfway line after 56 minutes saw him damage knee ligaments that will see him play no further part in this season. Despite this double blow seven minutes later City pulled a goal back. Foster cut into the box from the right flank only for Rogers to pull back on his shirt. For the second successive game the linesman signalled for a penalty and Drysdale sent Edwards the wrong way from the spot. Backed by their 150 plus travelling supporters City began to push forward in an increasingly desperate search for an equaliser. Foster fired a shot straight at Edwards but Tiverton were beginning to exploit the gaps at the back City were inevitably leaving. Ex-City midfielder Chenoweth forced a smart save out of Hervin before Thorne cleared a Everett header off the line. And in the 76th minute this pressure finally paid off when Oven's low cross-shot found the corner of the net. City threw captain Thorne up front in an attempt to find a way back into the game but he couldn't repeat his goalscoring feats of recent games and Tiverton held on comfortably to leave City still stuck deep in relegation trouble.
